A Quote & a great sign GIVEAWAY

Happy Thursday everyone!!
I want to share a quote I stumbled upon this week and then I have an awesome giveaway to share at the end of this post.

So true, huh? Sometimes it's hard to see God's plan in a difficult moment, but we need to keep moving and trust in His ways. After talking with a friend this week about something she is struggling with in her life, I was reminded of what scripture says in Jeremiah 29:11-13.

11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

$9.00 Thrift Store Transformation

I am so excited to show you my thrift store transformation!!
I purchased a $9.00 table from a thrift store awhile ago and this is my second time revamping our table.

This revamp is wayyyy better than the first time around if I do say so myself. ;)
I added beadboard wallpaper to the sides and painted it in a gray color that I mixed together myself.
I also painted a creamy white border around the desk's sides to blend in with the molding I added on each side of the desk.

The gray paint color really makes the desk pop in this room.

I would LOVE to add some detail to the back of the chair with push pins, but I'm waiting for a coupon to use at the craft store before that happens.

Have you found any neat deals at the thrift store lately??
Also, I will be back tomorrow with a great giveaway!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Seeing Stripes....in the

kitchen, that is!!

Yes...yes, I did paint some lovely stripes in our kitchen nook and it looks fab! Seriously, we love it and it's subtle enough that the stripes aren't the "In your face" kind of stripes...they are just right.

See?!
I have seen many inspirational photos online and in magazines of stripes painted on walls and ever since then I have been wanting to put stripes somewhere in our home!

I went back and forth on whether or not to do them in our entryway, but the kitchen nook seemed like a better space to add a little more drama.

I barely did any measuring (I know...some of you might cringe a little about that one) but really, no one is going to be taking a ruler to each stripe to make sure they were all equal, right?!
And if someone does, all I can say is good for them.  :)

The best part is peeling off the tape to see the end result!

The change is so subtle, but makes a big difference in person and in photos.

Hooray for quick changes!!

Oh, and the paint I used for the stripes was just leftover khaki and gray paint mixed together so I would have enough to paint with. Turns out, I actually have leftover paint from this mixture just in case I need to touch up a spot or two. :)

Are you loving stripes?

Friday's Crush #10

Happy Friday everyone!!

It really is beginning to feel a lot like fall here....I AM LOVING IT AND SO IS MY FAMILY!
The weather is getting cooler, the leaves are changing colors, and fall decor is everywhere.
Such a fun time of year, don't you think?

I am here today to post about my Friday Crush.
I have been crushing on jute rugs for a while and I have written a few posts about them.
After my jute rug order came in from RugsUSA last week, I didn't waste much time laying out the new rug in our family room- with the help of my hubby too, of course.

I tried two different lay-outs and ended up loving the first lay out the best!
Take a look!

And here is the second look- much, much better.
With the way our room is shaped, it made more sense to flip the rug in such a way that the tassels on the end of the rug were under our couch instead of off to the sides.

I spy a sippy cup in the picture below!! Don't you love that?
I didn't even realize it made it in the picture until I uploaded the picture and got it ready to post. :)
I think it adds a little cuteness to the room!

That's my Friday Crush for you- Jute Rugs....and really any rug in a room for that matter!

Check out RugsUSA for some great deals if you are ever in the market for an inexpensive but well-made rug!

Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Jute Rug Purchased and Delivered!!

Good morning, good morning, everyone!

Last week I received my Jute rug from this site in beige and we love it in our home.
Currently, it sits in our family room and looks wonderful!
I ordered the 8 X 10 size when it was 80% off!! That's right....80% off the original price so it was pretty inexpensive. I only paid a little over $100 for it and for an 8 X 10 jute rug, that is a SUPER FABULOUS price!

Hooray!

Rugs USA Maui Chunky Loop Navy Blue Rug
This picture was taken off their website so I will have a picture of how it looks in our home by tomorrow hopefully!

Hangin' Up More Plates

I hung up more chalkboard spray-painted plates that we rarely used. Instead of throwing them out, I decided that the playroom could use a little chalkboard-plated fun. Plus, it keeps things consistent around the house.

We had another blank wall space next to our rain gutter bookshelves.
So that's where the cute little plates were gonna get put up!

I thought about adding a 4th plate under the "Grow" but think 3 is good for now.
Plus, these our out of reach from our little girls' hands which like to grab EVERYTHING in sight! :)

And if anyone is wondering, our paint color in the playroom is called Wool Skein by Sherwin Williams. It's such a great neutral color and goes with so many other colors.

DIY Kid Apron & "Stuff" Holder

Hello, hello!
My title is a little bit of a weird one today, isn't it?!

Well, it's true...my DIY project for the day IS in fact an apron holder for our girls and a "stuff" holder.

Here is what I did!

I used some left over board that we had in our garage, painted it, and added 2 pink dresser knobs that we had on hand to a storage cabinet in the playroom.

Now our girls have a place to hang some of their play items.

This was such a quick project and I'm glad I did it because it keeps some of their play things off the floor and it helps our daughters access them a little bit better.

Have you done any quick DIY projects lately?

Friday's Crush #9

A few days ago I had a follow-up doctor's appointment and was feeling a bit nervous.
I really had nothing to be nervous about, honestly, but nevertheless, a feeling of worry came over me as I walked into the doctor's office.

As I was having my ultrasound done by the technician, all I could think about was how the Lord has blessed me. He has not only given me good health over the years, but he has blessed me with a family I enjoy being around and learning from. There were so many things I was thanking God for while I was talking with Him during that appointment and then suddenly, all my fears and worries disappeared. It really is quite amazing how worry-free we can be if we just rest-assured in God's Word and His promises, isn't it?

A song that comes to mind during my feelings of doubt or worry is "How Great Thou Art.
There is something special about the lyrics to an older hymn, you know?

In case you haven't heard of the song or are unsure what it is about, here are the lyrics.

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Chorus:
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

Verse 2:
When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

Chorus

Verse 3:
And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Chorus

Verse 4:
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

And He is great!
I love this song and its meaning and I hope you find it enjoyable and meaningful too!
Take some time to thank God for his blessings in your life...you might be pleasantly surprised at what you find!

Happy weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Making Over a Thrift Store Bench

Ever since our oldest has been walking, which I have to admit has been a long time, we have been talking about buying a stepping stool for her.
She is a climber and will use anything in her path to stand on in order to get to something.
Rock climbing in her future? I think maybe!!

I knew I didn't want to buy anything new so I looked at a few thrift stores but never found much...partly because it's hard to make it to thrift stores with both girls in tow.

But over the weekend, I told my husband I wanted to check out my favorite thrift store, and SCORE!!! I found what I was looking for...and even better it cost me about $3.00!

As soon as I brought it home, our daughter was in LOVE!

I immediately cleaned it up and painted it with none other than my chalkboard paint...gotta love that stuff!

And after a few coats and some dry time, I brought it inside.
Even better, when our girls are older and don't need to use it anymore, I have plans to put it on our porch as a decoration.
It looks good holding a few pumpkins when the season is right....how do I know this? I already tried it out! ;)

I love that it transforms from a stepping stool to a bench to sit on.

What treasures have you spotted at your local thrift store?

Chalkboard Painted Plates

We have this little space in our kitchen nook that is pretty empty.
The only thing in our nook corner is a picnic basket that our daughter likes to sometimes use as a stepping stool to get to our kitchen bench. :)

Since there was a little something missing on the walls, I decided to get creative and paint some old plates we barely used with chalkboard paint. I also hot glued some screen door patches (yes, you read that right!) to the backs of the plates with wire so they would hang from the wall.
Hey! I am a fan of using what you have around your home to decorate and that is why I went with the screen patches and wire. :)

Here is the blank wall we started with:
 Kind of plain, right?
Well, not for long!!

 Any Gator fans out there?!
Don't worry, these plates were already cracking and no longer good to use for dinner plates, so they had to "go." But we have plenty of other Gator memorabilia around the house!!

How do you decorate with plates?

I Am Loving Hydrangeas!!

We recently added some colorful flowers and plants to our front and back yard and didn't get the chance to add one of my favorite flowers-
Hydrangeas!

Because we didn't add any to our outdoor spaces, I decided to bring the hydrangeas indoors.
I purchased them in 2 colors and cannot get enough of them!

I added some to to our dining room wreath and to our table with a vase I DIY'ed a while back.

I also added some pops of orange flowers to our nightstands.
I still have yet to post about our bedroom.

By the way, the nightstand you see picture was a thrift store purchase last year...we got that puppy for under $10!!!
And the lamp (we have another one on the other nightstand not pictured) was $.75. NO JOKE!!! It was less than a dollar. It was bright pink and white after I purchased it but with a little paint, it looks high end!

Yeay!

Are you in love with hydrangeas as much as me?!
How do you decorate with flowers?

We Added Moulding to our Backsplash

We finally did it!
Last week, we were able to add moulding to our kitchen backsplash and we didn't pay a dime for it!
Sweetness!
We actually had enough spare moulding on hand in the garage that we used...it always pays off to save what you have.

Before, we just had wallpaper ends exposed and it didn't look properly finished.

Once we added the moulding, it finished things off a bit more in the kitchen.

If you want to read more about our backsplash purchase and how we did it, click here, here, and here!

How do you do it?
