A Birthday Celebration for our Boy

They say the more children you have, the quicker time seems to travel. I totally feel that is the case as we celebrate the birth of our youngest today. Today he turns 1 and we really cannot believe that. I wanted to write a quick note to our boy in celebrating his big day!

Dear son,

Today you turn one. Wow! We can hardly believe it.
As I write this, I can hear you cackling with your sister as you two play in a big empty cardboard box together next to me. You take such delight in having your two sisters around...they are your biggest fans and I have no doubt that you think the world of them. When we first brought you home from the hospital last year, we were unsure of how they would react to you; however, they both took to you right away as if you had always been a part of their life. Now theses girls can't even think of what life was like before you became their little brother. I think you rest easy at night knowing you have two caring sisters who love you so much and, of course, who wear you out by the end of the day. ;)

I know parents say this often about their kids, but you, my son, really are an easy-going, laid back little boy. You have such a sweet demeanor and a calm personality that is hard to ignore. When you laugh, it makes us smile- your laugh is unlike any other baby laugh I've heard. It's hard to describe that laugh in words so I've taken video of it to show you someday.

You take delight in the simplest of things, like rolling a plastic ball on the floor or throwing blocks and Legos down the 4 steps of the play room. For whatever reason, you think that is the funniest thing in the world to do (or maybe you're just laughing so hard because you know mommy has to clean it all up at the end of the day). ;)

Like your older sisters, we hope you grow to know that God loves you much more than you can ever imagine. It is by his grace alone that we experience his mercy and love. We want you to trust in Him someday and pray that we, as your parents, lead you to know Him personally. We don't want you to just believe there is a God out there, but we want you to walk with Him. You will know the difference in that someday I believe.

Happy birthday, sweet son. May this be one of many, many more we all celebrate together!! We love you!!!!
