Signs of Fall in Our Home

Hi there!! Happy Thursday!
For some reason I keep thinking it is Friday...don't know why but it almost feels like tomorrow is Saturday! :) It will be here soon enough.

Well, today's post is all about some fall decor we have around our house.
Recently, my mom sent up a few boxes of various decorations for Fall and Christmas and I have already started laying things out.
I have a few pictures to share of our new decor...mainly decorated in our dining room so far. But I have already showed you the changed we have made to our front porch and now it is time to work on other parts of our home.
I have even thought about putting up our Christmas tree and decorating with fall colors! I know! Crazy, right?! But I just can't help thinking about doing it. I don't know if I will get to it this year, but maybe next year I will try that idea. :)

Here are some pictures for you in the meantime...

These cuties are from Cracker Barrel! We love that place but sadly haven't eaten out in a while.
My mom got them a while ago and I could tell because the package wasn't even open and it
was a little dusty...lol.

She also sent us these great orange place mats and cute little fall plates. Perfect for our 15 month old!

Not sure where to put this guy....maybe on the front porch since he plugs in. Ha!

And this cutie I had made a loooong time ago when I was a kid.
I bet my mom forgot that she even had this! Ha!

How are you decorating for the seasons?

Our Tuesday Bible Studies

Hi everyone!!

How are you?
My family and I are doing pretty well and are loving the new change in weather where we live. :)
I just love fall and always have.

Well, anyways, I wanted to post today about a Bible study my husband and I are co-leading this year with another couple from our church. You see, for a while I knew my husband would make a great Bible study leader and now he finally gets the chance to lead with another fellow believer on Tuesdays. In the future, we would like to host our own Bible study at our house, but this year we decided to co-lead with another family at their house and so far it has worked out beautifully!

To go back a little bit, my husband and I have been a part of a small group for about 4 to 5 years now. (Before that, and before we even knew each other, I was a part of a college Bible study).
Anyhow, being in a small group with others has really been a big part of our life. Back in Florida, we had amazing experiences being a big part of 2 different small groups at the church we use to attend and once we decided to relocate to a different state, we knew that we needed to get plugged into one right away.

Scripture also tells us how important it is to be in community with others and to fellowship. In fact, a few verses we have been talking about in our small group recently has been Acts 2:42-47. Not only did Jesus stress it's importance, He also lived it out too!

It has been an encouragement to my husband and I and to our family finding a church and a small group where we can be open and honest with each other and pray for one another.
I just wanted to share that with you all today since we met yesterday evening and it has been on my heart.

I hope you all have a great Wednesday and find a group to plug in to as well. :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Updates to Our House....

Hi there!
I have a few updates to share with you...pictures of Tess' new room (coming together quite nicely) and our family room.
Before I do, how are you enjoying the weather outside? We love it! We are outside every day now since the weather has been cool and our family can't get enough of this coolness. Our dog especially loves it and could stay out there for hours and hours...we actually have to drag him inside sometimes to eat or get some water because he surely forgets since he has so much fun.
Anyways, I hope you and your family are able to get outside as much as possible and relax and play.

Okay...so here are some pictures of how I have been rearranging things in the new room for our daughter. I have probably rearranged things in their 5 times, but finally got something that I think works.....for now at least! Ha!

We bought this end table at the thrift store and I sanded and repainted it to go more with our style.

I think it cost about $5.00 for the end table and really couldn't pass that up!
I just added another coat of spray paint to it and let it dry outside.

Then I brought it to the new room to see how it measured up and it looks good to us!

Here is the bed, desk, and storage shelves from Target.

On this blank wall I plan on adding more pictures and other things like that.
I also plan on repainting the room...not really looking forward to that, but I want it done so hopefully I will get the energy soon to tackle it so it is done!

This is the storage ottoman I recovered with our new fabric...the fabric was actually from queen bed sheets I bought at Ross recently! Score!

And this is our family room.
We rearranged things around and had a friend help us out too!
I added the frames today by rearranging them on the wall to frame out the TV.

And our new fall mantle.
It is still a work-in-progress because I want to add a bigger bronze mirror above the fireplace. I love the one that Home Depot sells but we are waiting to save a bit before making that purchase.

So what do you think?

Recovered Storage Ottoman

Good morning!
Today I just wanted to pop in to share a quick post about a storage ottoman I recovered recently with some new fabric I found online at Fabric.com.

Here are some pictures to show you what I started with and what the ottoman turned out to look like after being recovered with new fabric.

Here is what we had by our desk before I recovered this ottoman.
I really liked the fabric I had put on originally, but it was starting to wash out against the wall color and the color of the desk and I wanted to replace it with something that had more color and POP to it!

So in came this new fabric that I purchased online!

And this is what it looked like after I took off the old fabric and replaced it with something new.
:)

And these nice puppies...a.k.a. pillows...are getting recovered probably with the same fabric that I used to recover the ottoman.

So what do you think?
Have you recovered anything in your house lately?

Fall is QUICKLY Approaching.....

and I seriously am soooooo excited about it! :)
The weather here is getting cooler and the leaves are slowly changing on the trees. Fall is literally my favorite time of the year. I love the other seasons too, but there has always been something about fall that makes me smile. :) What about you?

I also have some pictures of our front door decorated for fall. I may need to tweak a few things here and there, but for the most part, I feel like the decor is going in the right direction....and it looks presentable enough to show here on the blog. Ha!
And on a side note: I got my fall inspiration from the blog Centsationgirl and other images online.

These are the before pictures of what our front doorway looked like...really not much to see, huh?

This puppy was a huge score in price at Target. It originally started out at $50.00 and went on sale or $15.00! What?!?!?!?!?! Can you say YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It needed some t.l.c. but nothing a little $3.00 can of spray paint can't fix.  :)

I did 2 coats in a color called Heirloom White by Rustoleum. Even though it was one of their cheaper cans, it really did a good job with covering the original color.
And the dry time was quick too- at about 1 hour.

Here is the AFTER!!!!

I am in LOVE! :)

The pumpkins were purchased at Target and they are faux which means I can use them every year! Yes please!!

The garland leaves and the wreath are from the Dollar Tree. Holla!!!!!
I made the wreath with 2 of the garland wreaths I bought and strung more together to wrap around the door for that fall effect.

Don't you love this look much more? I know I do!

I would still love to buy another bigger and sturdier outdoor rug for the front door but don't want to spend $20.00 on one. so I am on the hunt for one for now.

I love shopping around the local thrift stores because you can find some great deals.
In fact, over the weekend I went browsing at one of the local thrift stores in the area and bought a colorful abacus for our daugther for $4.00 and a full bag........FULL people......of beach toys for $2.00!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, you can't get a better deal than that. :)

So what do think?

Now go out and enjoy this weather!

Better Homes and Gardens

Good morning, everyone!

I am back again today to show you some neat images I spied while looking through the newest edition of Better Homes and Gardens. My mom sends me subscriptions and I love receiving the magazines in the mail! It's a lot of fun for me to browse through BHG for ideas and this one doesn't disappoint.

And to show you what I mean, here are just a few pictures:

Enjoy!

I love the bold patterns and texture of this living room. Don't know if I could pull it off in our home, but those chairs are fabulous!

Interesting that on this dining room table, the designer used a patterned rug as a table runner. Pretty bold and different, wouldn't you say?
I would've never thought to do something like that.

I love these vases for fall! Orange and blue are such great color combinations and these would be perfect around the house.

And who doesn't love pumpkins?! How cute are these candle pumkins! I love them!

This picture just makes me feel all warm and cozy inside. I love the patterned table and the soft colors. It's very elegant and so fall!

Do you love to read BHG?

Painted Target Storage Shelf

Good morning! Happy Friday everyone! :)

Well, finally the storage shelf is finished and painted! YAY! It still hasn't been brought up to Tess' room yet, but I have pictures to show you of what it looks like now. I also have a few tips of the things I learned along the way when painting this piece of furniture.

There is still a little bit of drying to do as far as the paint goes, but it's looking good and I am so happy about that!

Side picture:

And this is the before of the Target shelf. It was a little dusty before I prepped and painted it, but the afters are so much better!

And a few quick prepping tips!

1. Make sure to clean the surface of the furniture piece you are going to paint.

2. Buy a product called Zinsser if you are going to be painting laminate. I should've researched about that first, but I didn't and started painting my laminate furniture first with latex paint- end result= BAD IDEA!

3. Use Zinsser oil based primer, let dry AT LEAST one hour, then paint with whatever color you want. I chose to use my favorite glossy white spray paint from Rustoleum for the job and love the way it turned out in the end!

It only took a week, HAHA!!, but it is finally done and I can't wait to put the room together.

Thanks for stopping by and happy Friday everyone!!!!

A Bit of Randomness for the Guest Room

Good morning, everyone!

So the guest room is slowly but surely being transitioned into Tess' big girl room. Yesterday, I went out to run some errands and stopped at Home Depot for some paint and at Ross for some curtain fabric. I actually found a queen sheet set that I loved because of the pattern on the fabric and decided to use the bed sheet as a curtain for the room (with a little bit of tweaking to it, of course) and will use the fitted bed sheet to recover a storage ottoman in her room.

More pics to come of all of that soon, but in the meantime, I took some pictures of my progress so far and the "organization" I am trying to get done in the room. Please excuse the mess in some of the photos, but hopefully this gives a good idea of where the room is headed decor-wise.

This is the Target storage cube that is getting transformed with a new coat of paint that I purchased at Home Depot. It will take me a few days to cover the whole thing because I am painting laminate and that takes longer to settle in than if the storage cubes were made of wood.

I just bought regular old latex paint to change up this furniture piece. So far it is working pretty well.

Here are some pictures of the new sheets I bought at Ross and used one of them to make curtains for the room. You can see a better picture of the pattern below.

Here is the closet full of little baby clothes that Tess no longer fits into, so I packed them away and they will sit in the attic for who knows how long.  ;)  ;)

Much better after the clothes were cleared out!

But then I still had this mess to clear out and once I did, I put one of the other Target storage pieces
I had in there and may paint it later in the future.

In a few months, it will hopefully have cute little bins that will fit inside each cube and hold a plethora of things like clothes, toys, etc.

And here is another picture of the closet so far.

There is still a TON more to do, but this gives you a quick idea of what we have going on so far.

More to come later in the week!
Thanks for stopping by!!
