Thrift Store Mirror

The new mirror was put up today by my handy hubby and we love how it turned out!

To start with, I bought this mirror at the Thrift Store (you can find so many wonderful things there) after spying it for weeks. After much waiting and a little bit of anticipation, I decided to purchase it and knew exactly where I could put it.

Okay, so this is the mirror I found at the Thrift Store recently and I couldn't wait to paint the frame before putting it up on our wall!

I knew the mirror would look great on this empty wall upstairs so I leaned it on our ottoman just to give me a quick idea of how it would look once it was painted and placed on the wall.
Plus, it was a good place to put the mirror until I could actually start painting.  :)

So what did I use to paint this huge mirror's frame?

If you guessed a paint by Sherwin Williams, you would be correct! But what color exactly?

The color is called Accessible Beige, but I did get a small sample of this color at Lowe's (color matched). I didn't want to buy new paint just to paint this mirror, so I looked around the house for something we already had that could work and Accessible Beige was the winner!

It actually looks a little bit like an off white color here but has beige/gray tones which goes well next to our upstairs wall color, Wool Skein.

It took a few coats to get this puppy (a.k.a. the mirror) just right but it was worth all the extra painting needed.

I also used old magazine pages and Frog tape to cover the mirror itself so there weren't any paint spills on the mirror.

After painting, I placed our mirror in a spot where it could dry.

And now for the BIG reveal!!!

My handy hubby hung the mirror up because 1.) It's a pretty heavy piece and 2.) He is better at the whole measuring thing than I am...which is a good thing because I like to hang a lot of things on our walls.
:)

I love how the paint on the frame ties in with the wall color and the trim!

Please ignore the big ottoman below the mirror!

I am planning on using canvas dropcloth to cover the ottoman and possible doing something special with the top of the ottoman...but that will be for another post at another time.
:)

Have you hung a mirror up in your home lately?

Thanks for stopping by!

About Me

So I feel like it is time to share a little bit about myself. I had not originally planned on writing this post, but whenever I read other blogs, I generally find myself clicking on the link that says "About Me".

What can I say, I like to read about what others share about themselves on their own blogs (because I am nosy like that!) so I might as well just go ahead and type a little quick something about myself as well.

My name is Stephanie and I have been married since 2009 to an amazing man that loves and cares for me the way a man should.  :)
Together, we have two beautiful little girls that are so precious to us and we love watching them as they grow and learn each day. We also have a German Shepherd/Lab who is very protective of all of us (I guess because we are part of his pack). We love to watch our girls interact with him and play together. He is so careful around both of them and will always be their protector!

Other facts about myself...
I worked as an elementary school teacher for 4 years teaching 3rd and 4th grade, but after having our girls, I began the wonderful full-time job of being a stay-at-home mom. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.  :)

I began writing for this blog as a chance to show my creative side. Thrifting, painting, and decorating are all part of the creative process I enjoy doing and hope to inspire others because of it.

I must also mention that I am a follower of Jesus Christ! It is because of Him that all things are made possible and I want to live my life singing praises to His name.

Thanks for stopping by to read more! I hope you stay a while and hopefully we can get to "know" each other.

~Love

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did you decide to start a blog?

I had not planned on beginning my own blog until this year, in the beginning of January. I really wanted to share my creativity with others and after reading a few blogs out there in blogland last year, I thought it would be something I could do, too!

What are the names of the paint colors used in your home?

All colors used in our home so far are from Sherwin Williams

Family room and stairwell- Relaxed Khaki
Kitchen- Currently the kitchen is painted Latte
Dining Room- Currently the dining room is painted Latte
Loft- Wool Skein
Guest Bathroom- Sea Salt
Nursery- Bubble and Lime Rickey
Master Bedroom- Dorian Gray

Do you blog everyday?

Although I try and blog during the week, I usually do not blog on the weekends. My Monday-Thursday blogs are posted about DIY projects, anything painted around the house, and the like. On Fridays, I have started blogging about my devotions and a book called Bible Doctrine. After praying about how I could blog about my devotions somehow, I felt called to blog about how God's Word is working in my life and after I began reading Bible Doctrine, I knew that I wanted to make that book a part of my Friday posts.

Where do you get most of your project ideas?

Generally, most of the ideas are from other blogs I like to read during the week or after searching neat websites like Pinterest! There are some really neat ideas out there on the web about different ways you can dress up your home so that is always a good place to start when it comes to any DIY project. Sometimes I also come up with an idea for a project and just go with it and then I will blog about it later in the week.
