Canvas Wrapped Glass Vases

I get really excited when an idea pops into my head while working on another DIY project around the house. This post is about one of those do-it-yourself projects that just came to my mind as I was working on the curtains for our dining room recently. (More on that post here)

I ended up having a little bit of left over canvas dropcloth fabric and did not want to throw it all away, so when the idea to wrap two of our glass vases popped into my head, I decided to give it a try.

To begin this project, I took two glass vases that we purchased almost 4 years ago for our wedding to decorate. F.Y.I.- we actually bought all of our vases at the Dollar Tree years ago! It was a great way to save some money when decorating the tables at our wedding reception.  :)

So here is a picture of the vase before it was wrapped in the canvas dropcloth.

The vase doesn't look too hot in this picture, as you can see, but it looked pretty at our wedding reception.  :) I wish I had a picture on hand to show you, but I would have to dig that up in our archives to post.

After picking out my vases, I cut out a little square from the left over canvas dropcloth to wrap around my vase.
I also used my hot glue gun to keep the cloth on the vase, but made sure to do that in such a way that none of the glue actually touched the vase. This way I can always take the wrapped cloth off the vase in the future, if need be, to change up the style of the vase.
But for now, I simply love it. It was an easy and simple project that was completed during my little ones nap...those are the kind of projects I like doing around the house!  :) And thankfully she loves nap time!!

A close up shot of the vase.

Oh, and the vase is filled with fake flowers and decor of course!  :)
We had friends over the other weekend and someone commented on the flowers at our dining room table. They couldn't tell if the flowers were real or fake and that actually made me happy. Although they may not look like real flowers to me, they are pretty and look real to some people at least.

I do want to mention that I bought these decorations at Wal-Mart and still need to buy more to fill the other vase I made. Hopefully the little one and I can make it out to the store this week to buy some more.

Here is another picture taken up close.

I think I will buy some different colored flowers for the second vase to change things up a bit from the red flowers. I was thinking some kind of blue and green color would look great! I may even mix and match the red flowers with the new flowers and put some of each in the different vases.

Have a wonderful Tuesday!!

DIY Scripted Curtains Part II

Good morning everyone!

The scripted curtains for our dining room are finally up! We worked on putting them up this weekend and we also made sure to hang them higher than how they were hung before. I must say that after we raised the curtains a foot higher above our door frame, it made our room look larger and it our window look bigger! Sweet!! I love when that happens!

I like how the curtains turned out, but I do need to say that I am still a little unsure if they work really well in our dining room as is...which is a bummer! I don't know why I can't find curtains that work really well in there. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the dining room is still incomplete as far as furniture goes. There are still some items we need to add to the space, like a buffet table, accessories, etc., but you would think that finding the perfect curtains would be the easy part of decorating a room. Ack!! I know it is not a huge deal, so I need to remember that and not worry out about the fact that the room is not completely finished.

Moving on....so I took some pictures of the whole process and of the final product to share, but before I do that, I need to mention one more thing. I sewed the top of the curtains so they would hang from the curtain rod. I thought about buying some curtain clip/rings at Target, but that would cost me about $8-$10...not a whole lot of money, I know, but when you can save a little, why not!? So instead of dropping the big bucks...hehe, I decided to sew the curtains myself so they would hang from the rod- and did it all for free!!

Without further ado, here are some pics!

Here you can see that I was trying to figure out how much extra curtain was needed before I began sewing.

I used Frog tape to hold the curtain in place before I started sewing.

Okay, so even thought I used Frog tape to help me sew in a straight line, it still ended up crooked. Haha! Thankfully it doesn't bother me at all, but it does make me smile. It gives my curtains character. Yes! That is what I will call this...character!

See, from a distance you can't even tell that the sewing lines are crooked and once it goes up on the curtain rod, no one will ever be able to tell.   :)

I didn't take a picture of the whole space, because like I mentioned before, the dining room isn't completed. But you can get an idea of how a room could look spacious once the curtains are hung a little higher than the door frame.

This is a sneaky peek of another project I completed this weekend...the whole project only took a few minutes but there will be more on that tomorrow!   :)

Atonement

Good morning and happy Friday!

I am actually writing this on a Thursday night to post it for Friday morning...the reason why is because my family and I are feeling a little bit under the weather and so we are going to try and rest up tomorrow so we can finish some more projects this weekend.  :)

Since I didn't post last Friday, I wanted to post about my devotions for this Friday. I try not to miss a day of blogging, but life happens and I have to attend to my family.

There are two questions I want to cover today which I have learned about while doing my devotions.

The first question is: Was it necessary for Christ to die?

The second question is: What really happened in the atonement? (Part of the title for my post).

So, was it necessary for Christ to die for us? Well, in short, Christ did not need to save us or anyone at all. When I wrote my post about angels a few weeks ago, I posted that we read in 2 Peter 2:4, "For if God did not spare the angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and comitted them to chains of gloomy darkenss to be kept until judgment" then the atonement was not necessary. However, because God has justice and love for us, he sent his Son to carry the burden for our sins. Romans 3 talks about the righteousness of God through faith and verse 26 of this chapter reads, "It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus." So if we were to be saved from our sins, we needed Christ to come and pay the ransom for our sins. Christ was obedient to the Father and suffered in our place.

Grudem also talks about two kinds of obedience: active and passive. Active obedience is "Christ having to live a life of perfect obedience to God in order to earn righteousness for us. He had to obey the law for his whole life on our behalf so that the positive merits of his perfect obedience would be counted for us." If this is active obedience then Grudem describes passive obedience as "Christ's suffering and dying for our sins." So why was it important that Christ live a life full of perfect obedience to the Father? Well, think about it. If we didn't need him to live a long and perfect life for us to follow, then he could have died at an earlier age instead of dying for us as a 33 year old man. Christ went through temptations just as we do on earth. He lived a sinless life and was made perfect. What a wonderful Lord we worship!

Before I close, I want to leave you with a paragraph taken from the last part of this chapter on the Atonement.

"Christ in his death experienced the same things believers in this present age experience when they die: His dead body remained on earth and was buried (as ours will be), but his spirit (or soul) passed immediately into the presence of God in heaven (just as ours will). Then on the first Easter morning, Christ's spirit was reunited with his body and he was raised from the dead- just as Christians who have died will (when Christ returns) be reunited to their bodies and raised in their perfect resurrection bodies to new life. Furthermore, these texts indicate that Christ in his death on the cross completely satisfied the demands of God's righteous judgment of sin and fully bore the wrath of God against that sin; there was no need for Christ to suffer further after his death on the cross."
