New Table

Hi there!
Hope everyone had a great weekend. The weather is slowing cooling off each day and it is certainly starting to feel a little more like fall now! I love it!

I recently shopped around at a thrift store in the area that I have grown to like a lot. Sometimes it is hard to find good thrift stores that have reasonable items at decent prices. This new place (well, new to me I guess) has some great items at good prices....since they have so many things, you really have to take your time and dig through what is there to find what you are looking for, but that is the joy about shopping at a thrift store.

I took a few snapshots of our table...it is a perfect size for our girls and they love using it to eat snacks on and they use it to play. Someday we will have a tea party with it! I covered the top in a pretty floral fabric I found at Joann's and primed and painted it to last so it is durable.

Anyways, here are some photos of it! Enjoy!

Here is where you can see a close-up of the print.
My oldest daughter was with me when I bought this and as soon as she saw it she loved it! She kept saying, "Ooh, I like this pink flower fabric!"  Score!!

We currently have it up in the playroom, but I brought it downstairs to take some pictures of it because we get better lighting there...and you can see our view of the backyard in some of the shots pictured above.

Hoping to have more to share this week with you of some other things.

Happy Monday and thanks for stopping by!

New Chalkboard For Sale

Hi there everyone!
Happy Thursday. :)

This week has been flying by...and it has already been almost 3 weeks since we have been in the new place. I can't believe it!

I wanted to share a new piece I have for sale. It is a chalkboard wall hanging that I recently made over. It is very sturdy and really a lovely piece with some nice detail. We currently have it hanging in our kitchen nook for notes and lists. I really love how it turned out.

Here are a few pictures for you:

Kitchen Phase 1

Hi there!

I hope you all had a good weekend. :)
Ours was pretty busy...and this week will be too, but I have managed to squeeze in some small projects here and there so the house is slowly coming together.
Since the house is really outdated, it will take some time for us to finish some projects and get things to where I like them.
I do have to say that waiting to complete these projects has been hard for me because I am not a patient person by nature (although I know God is teaching me some important lessons through all of this) and I have been itching to get so many things done. It's not going to happen that way, but it is probably best not to rush things.

Anyways, I have some pictures to share of our kitchen since a lot of the painting has been done.
It is still not finished by any means, but I wanted to share what I have done so far.

There will be a lot of photos so bear with me!
First up are the "before" pictures....looking back at these it hurts my eyes a little!
So outdated!!!!

So.much.wood.
It was everywhere....and those green counter-tops....don't get me started. I guess it was meant to match the carpet in the family room? That's my guess at least. And yes, that fridge is almost 30 years old...kinda gross, but it is functional and we don't have the money to go out and buy a new one yet so it stays....for now.

The first thing I did in here was paint the kitchen island.
I used a medium tone gray called Pavestone by Sherwin Williams.
I really wanted to use gray in the kitchen and figured that would be a good place to start.

I also painted the green counter-tops...that helped brighten things up a bit in here in addition to taking down those uppper floating cabinets.

After leaving the kitchen that way for a few days, I tackled the cabinets.
For those, I went with Sherwin Williams Worldly Gray. It is a nice light gray with a brown undertone.
I like it, but I am not sure I love the way they turned out. I say that probably because there are so many other things I want to change about this kitchen and until that is done, I won't know how I feel about the gray cabinets.

I added some brass knobs to most of the cabinets since I didn't want to change all of the other brass hardware we have in the house....I actually like them. I don't know if they work well with the light gray, but maybe I will change my mind about that.

I also filled the gaps between the cabinets with some putty to give the cabinet faces a bit more of a flush look...I still have some light sanding to do on some of them, but I am taking my time getting that done. :)

Yes, we still need to touch up the ceiling where the cabinets came down...And I want to remove the ceiling fan in the kitchen...who puts a fan in the kitchen anyways? I haven't seen a fan in a kitchen since the early 90's when I was a kid...and even then, we had it in the kitchen nook, not right smack in the middle of the kitchen island.

Sorry for the mess, I didn't stage these photos...obviously. ;)

So that is where things stand right now in here...it's much brighter in this space now that the cabinets and counter tops have been painted.

I'm still deciding on whether or not to paint some of the wood trim...I really want to keep a lot of the woodwork the way it is, but I still feel that it is a bit too much the way it is and have to decide what parts of it I want to paint and what parts not to touch. These are first world problems as they call it...so I'm trying not to stress too much over it.

Oh, and I hope you don't read this and think, wow, that looks pretty simple...it must have been a quick project.
Nope!
It took me about 2 weeks to do...mainly because I was working during nap times and in the evenings sometimes and just couldn't get it all knocked out in a couple of days. I'm sure some people could, but with 2 kiddos and life, it just wasn't going to happen that quickly. But at least it is partly done now!

More to share later in the week.
I have also sold a few more furniture pieces and am hoping to get more in this week and next. I have been on the hunt for some items, but haven't had any luck finding the right pieces.

Dining Room- Phase 1

So our dining room is up next on the tour today.
It is a pretty good sized room...just needs some decor and some color.

I haven't really done too much in this room either...I have added some curtains (which I think I may tweak a little bit) and our dining table...I also added some "bling" to the chandelier. Other than that, there is still some painting to do and I am pretty sure I will be adding some beadboard wallpaper to the bottom section of the room below the moulding.

I sold our last buffet table after painting it, and am on the hunt for another one.

In the meantime, I am trying to decide between which 2 mirrors I will be using in the room.
One is a bit more substantial so I am leaning towards using that one, but the other one has a bit more detail and I like it better. Decisions, decisions....

Here are some photos of the room as it look right now.

I have a good idea of how I am going to decorate the space...it's just finding the right pieces to make it work...and being patient. ;)

By the way, I am a BIG fan of the original woodwork...it adds so much character to the place.

A Light, Bright, and Airy Bedroom

I have shared some pictures before of our daugther's room, but there wasn't too much to share at the time.
I have since then added some curtains and hung them higher on the wall, moved some things around, and added mirrors to one of the walls.

It is still not completely finished, much like the rest of our house, but our daugther's rooms was one of the places we really wanted to finish and make special fairly quickly since this move was a big change for them. It seems to have worked out! In fact, our oldest LOVES her new room. She often times just asks us to go in there with her and read a few stories or play and that is really special.

Here are some photos of her room....that is until little sissy moves in there too and they share a room...which they are very excited about!

The other side of the room isn't done since we still need another twin bed before little sis can move in...but once we get that, there is only the light fixture I would like to change out. Right now we have a blue fan hanging in the room and it isn't very attractive. Hence why there are no pictures of it for you to see. ;)
I think I would also like to add some benches at the end of the beds once I find something the girls like that is functional as well.

There is something just so calming about this space. I love walking in here! It is very light and airy...and I feel that for a girls a bedroom, that is really perfect. :)

Also, I am working on adding a gallery wall to our upstairs hallway.
I didn't really have much of a plan when I started hanging our pictures. I knew I wanted at least some kind of organization to it, but at the same time, didn't want it to look too planned out. (which is why there was no measuring done...cause that's how I roll!)

There is still some tweaking to do here, and then I want to paint the doors a dark gray....maybe Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze?? I love that paint strip! It is filled with beautiful gray colors if you ever want to check it out.

You can read all about the large ruler I made by going here.

Removing the Upper Floating Cabinets

Woohoo!!
I am so very excited about today's post y'all!

Today's post is all about our kitchen and how we took our upper cabinets down.
And I say "we" but I really mean my husband...because he did a lot of the work! No joke! I stood there and took pictures and helped out with the occasional little project. :) He did an awesome job though and we love how it turned out!!

Let's take a look at what we were working with before, shall we?

These cabinets totally blocked our view to the family room and just didn't make sense...except for storing more things...but we have a large kitchen island and 2 pantries, so storage was no problem once these were removed. Plus, I feel like I was just putting random things in those cabinets that we weren't using...and by not having them, I got to clean out and give away what we knew we weren't going to use. It was a bit freeing!

Little cuties with their (plastic) hard hats. :)
Those were gifts from one of our neighbors.

And there is my hubby taking down the cabinets...look at him go!
The anchors and screws came out easily, but we were surprised to find that the cabinets were still hanging up once we took those out! Basically, whoever installed them just ended up nailing/stapling them to this wood piece you see my hubby trying to separate from the cabinets. That was the worst part. He had to take his claw hammer and separate everything and that took a lot of time. He is so wonderful for doing that for me...
He was also a little skeptical of taking them down, but once they were down, he loved how it turned out!

It was actually more involved than we thought. We were told that it wouldn't be too hard of a job to do so we figured we would give it a go...but once the hubs got it started, it wasn't that easy. Turns out, if you are trying to take down cabinets that are about 20 years old or more, than you basically have to gut the whole thing....which means we wouldn't be able to save the upper cabinets and use them elsewhere like we originally planned.

Here is what things looked like right after they were taken down....
please excuse the mess!! We vacuumed and cleaned up right after taking these pictures.

Ahhhh!!! So much more open! Can't believe it!
I smile EVERY time I walk in here!
My man did a fabulous job!

There is still some small patch-work to do and some other things...but those are smaller projects on the list to finish.

Still a ways to go in here and the family room, but I am so happy those things aren't there anymore. It's nice to be able to cook and see into the family room at the same time!

I will leave you with one more before and after side-by-side:

Girl's Rooms- Phase 1

Hello again!

Today I wanted to share a few pictures of our girl's rooms with you.
Again, there really hasn't been much decorating done since we just moved in less than a week ago, but it is coming together nicely at the moment.

There rooms also haven't been painted since the walls were freshly painted when we moved in...I don't know what color the original home owners chose, but it is actually a nice creamy tan/off-white that I think we will keep...at least for a while. ;)

For now the girls have their own room, but they will be sharing one of the larger rooms in the future once we get another twin bed. We already have a headboard that I painted to match the other one that is currently in there. Once that is done, the decorating can begin!

Each room is a good size and the girls are happy about that! They love running back and forth between their rooms. :)

I plan on painting their doors a gray/black and will keep the hardware color the same.
I still need to hang some pictures and other art, but that will come with time.

That's it for the girls room tour.
