Scripted DIY Curtains

This post will be a three part post. The reason that it will take me up to next week to finally finish these curtains I am working on right now is because 1.) I need to complete another set of curtains (which will hopefully get done tonight), and 2.) We won't be able to hang the curtains until this weekend.

Nevertheless, I can show you some pictures I took yesterday of the process and I must say that I am pretty happy with the way these curtains are turning out! Did I mention that the curtains are made out of canvas dropcloth from Lowe's? Isn't that cool?! This type of material makes for some good curtains and I already have some hanging in our kitchen, which you can check out here.

To start, I picked a chapter out from the book of 2 Corinthians that I could use to fill our curtain. The chapter is about love and it was read at our wedding by a very dear friend of ours so it is very special to us. I also picked a few more verses out from the Bible, one from John and another from Psalms.

I was going to use painter's tape to mark off where I needed to begin writing, but figuring that would take too long (can you tell I am a little impatient?) I decided to use a laser tool we have to help me get my lines straight.

It's funny because we just found out we had this tool a few weeks ago. I think we won it in a gift grab a few Christmas' ago.

I used a gray Sharpie marker first because I wasn't sure we had any black Sharpie markers around the house.

But then I ran upstairs and found 5 Sharpie markers in black and used them to go back over the gray. The gray was running out of ink and I didn't have a backup gray marker so I went back over the words with the black Sharpie marker and it looked much better.

Here is a picture, below, of how it started to look after going over the words again with the other Sharpie marker.

I am wondering if I wrote too much on the curtain but we will have to see what it looks like after it is hung up in our dining room. Hopefully it will look great and won't look too busy.  :)

My inspiration for this project came from the DIY Showoff blog and after looking at her curtains, she definitely put more spacing between her words and lines, but hopefully by putting my words closer together it will still look great!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to have more up about this tomorrow and be ready for the final reveal on Monday!

DIY Dining Room Mirror Part 2

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Today I wanted to post about how I finally hung my other DIY mirror. (If you remember from another post, our dog broke the last mirror so I had to buy another one to replace it).

I had already completed painting the first mirror that we have already hung in the dining room a few weeks ago. You can read about that post here.

Since the link above talks in detail about how I created my mirrors, I won't go into the detail in this post about how I painted the mirrors, etc.  :)

Here are some updated pictures of the second mirror and some pictures after I hung it in our dining room as it looks today.

The mirror needs to be cleaned up a bit, but Windex will take care of that!  :)

In the picture above, you can see that I hung a mirror on each side of my tree painting. Someday, maybe, I plan on buying some molding to place around my painting to give it that framed look. If I still end up liking my painting in the next few years, we will probably do that. My taste tends to change over time with design, so we will see if the painting is still there in the next few years!  :)
I still do love it though and my hubby doesn't want me to ever get rid of it. How sweet!!

That's the finished dining room....for now!

Thanks for stopping by!

Easter Weekend and This Weeks Projects

Well hello there! I hope everyone had a Happy Easter!!! We sure did and we loved celebrating our Risen Lord and Saviour at church yesterday with our friends.  :)  He is risen!

We also took a mini-vacation with some friends this weekend to the mountains and had a lot of fun. We did some trail hiking, saw a waterfall, ate out, did some shopping, and played with the kiddos. It was really neat seeing Tess interact with another baby. I love watching her play with other kids because she is so sweet with them. She will be a great older sister someday.  :)

This week, I plan on posting about some projects I began last week that I still need to complete. Here is a quick list of what I plan on blogging about in the next few weeks:

1. Script drop cloth canvas curtains for dining room. I saw these on the DIY ShowOff blog and they are pretty awesome! I plan on doing this soon because I can't wait to get them hanging.

You can even use this fabric to cover a lampshade! I love the idea!

2. I also plan on making or buying a wreath for the dining room window. I have seen this idea in some magazines and on some blogs and I really want to do it too.

3. Convert a small ladder into a rack for a magazine or a towel holder.
I am not sure when this project would be done, but it has been on my list of things to do for a while and I have a few places where something like this could go.

4. Place a corner desk on the stair landing for storage.

5. Cover an ottoman with canvas dropcloth and cover the top with the scripted canvas cloth. (Another DIY project).

6. Paint current TV stand white.
I have been wanting to do this for a while but just wasn't sure it would be the right decision. Right now the stand is a dark wooden brown and it looks a little heavy in our family room so I would like to lighten the space by painting it. It would be a BIG project but I am hoping to do that sometime soon!

7. Hang other DIY mirror in dining room! The mirror is finished but I have just been a little bit lazy and haven't got to putting it up on the wall yet. Oops!!

8. And lastly, at least for now, I would like to make an ABC chair for Tess.

That's it for now!

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Monday!
