A Desk in Progress

So I am in the process of working on a table for our entryway.

We bought this table at the thrift store and guess the price......

$9.00!!! Yes, please!!!

Now we know it needs a lot of work, but nothing too major that we can't handle and for the price we paid, it can look fabulous with just a little work.

Plus it is the perfect size for placing my computer and storing other essential items.

You can see that the reason the drawers are a little wobbly is because the bottom of the drawers need to be reinforced with extra wood.

We are working on getting that part completed soon.

But until then, I was ready to paint this table...

so......

I sanded the top of the desk down to keep the original wood (because I love the original wood finish) and painted the rest of the piece with some left over Sherwin Williams Sea Salt.

Oh, and I also made sure to stain the top of the desk with some left over Kona stain from Lowe's.

I also used this same stain on our banisters which you can read about here.

Still more to do, but it's looking fabulous already!

Our Little Kitchen Nook

Well, hello, hello!! I hope everyone had a great weekend and is looking forward to those long summer days!

Today I am here to share the final reveal of our kitchen nook. There are still some small accessories to add like cushions and/or pillows to the seating area and some at work on the walls. So you ready for the pictures?!

Here is the quick after photo before getting to all of the details.

Now on to the details!

To hide the extension cord, I took some left-over canvas cloth and cut them into little strips about 2-3 inches thick. I wrapped the canvas cloth round and round the cord to blend it in a little and fit it with our style.

I also used extra string from the drop cloth to tie a knot around each cloth piece to hold it in place.

 

Here you can see the cords being hidden under the cloth and behind the bench/nook area.

 

We also draped the cord (or swagged it) instead of pulling it tight up against the ceiling.

We love our kitchen nook and think it is the perfect size for our family to eat and spend time together over breakfast. :)

Kid Art and Matthew 19

Hi folks! Happy Friday to all! :)

Yesterday, my husband and I had the pleasure of babysitting for some friends of ours and we of course brought our little girl along too to play with the kids. So in total, we were watching 5 children all 9 years and under, which was quite fun and kept the two of us very, very busy.

One of the little girls we were watching said that she loved to draw pictures so I asked her if she would draw something for my family and I. She replied, "Yea!!" with a huge smile on her face.

After spending some time thinking about what she was going to put together, she began to draw and color away and a few minutes later, this is what we were presented with.

We loved it so much that we hung it up on our fridge. :)

It's apparently a picture of my family...don't know why I take up almost the entire sheet of paper and have 3 toes on each foot, but we rolled with it. :) It was a pretty sweet gift and very thoughtful.

In all seriousness though, when I think about it, I am reminded of how much Jesus loved and still loves the little children. In the gospels, we are told countless stories of how Christ loved the children and said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 19:13-15). How sweet to know that our God loves the little children and delights in them. It is truly wonderful to be in the presence of little ones and comforting even more so to know that Jesus thinks so too.

Oh! And my mom sent us a box of goodies today which we received in the mail.

Among other cool things were these CUTE pink shoes for our daughter. Don't you love them?!?!

They are non-slip socks/shoes and they look adorable on our baby girl.

Okay, maybe she isn't a baby anymore because she is walking already, but we still like to call her our little baby anyways.

Ack!!! We love these shoes and so did our love.
