Our Year-Round Wreath

Hi everyone!! Happy Thursday morning to you. :)

We have a busy 2 weeks ahead of us with family and friends visiting so I will try to keep up with my posts, but I may skip a few days depending on how busy things get. We are really looking forward to spending quality time with our visitors and I can't wait until they get here to see us!! YAY!

Okay, I also wanted to share with you a new wreath I made with left-over fabric and red ribbon and a hot glue gun.

You have probably all seen many different wreaths out there either in the blog world or on pinterest. My idea came from pictures I have seen of fabric flowered wreaths on other blogs and decided to make my own. It seemed easy enough and after watching a tutorial, I got started.

Here she is!!! Our new wreath made from yarn (from the original wreath I made) and fabric.

I thought it would be a good idea to use the left-over fabric to make the flowers because these are the same fabrics in our home, so it gives things a little bit more of a consistency.

I made about 40 or so flowers (I think!) and pinned them first before gluing them onto the wreath.

I really wanted to cover up the yellow-yarned sides of the wreath. This gave me a good idea of where the flowers were going to be placed.

Eeekkk!!! I love how it turned out!

I really want to keep this wreath up for the rest of the year because I think it could easily be interchangeable with the seasons.

Gray and White Striped Pillow

I have another fun DIY project to share with you today!

So I have been in love with stripes ever since I can remember. I have a few outfits that I wear with horizontal and vertical stripes and they really are some of my favorite outfits in my closet.
Right before we moved into our new home, I had been looking for new bedsheets for our room and guess what pattern we have on our pillows?

Stripes!!!!
Gray and white stripes to be exact and after 2 years, we are still in love with our sheet set. It works so well in our room and I just knew I wanted to carry that same pattern over in other parts of our home.

So how did I do this?
Well, I had been actually looking at a fabulous website called Fabric.com for navy and white wide striped fabric. There were a few on this website and the price was great, but I just couldn't actually order it online. Why?
Well, as I was brainstorming about what to do, it dawned on me that I could make my own pillow with left-over fabric from when I sewed our slipcovered bench a while back. I also had some left-over white paint on hand, painter's tape, and a paint brush. That was all the supplies needed so it was time to start.

Here is the pillow I wanted to recover.

It's not a bad-looking pillow at all, but I just wanted to add my love of stripes somewhere and this was the perfect place to start!

I just used painter's tape to tape off where I wanted the stripes to go.

I didn't really measure, just eye-balled everything before painting with my brush.

Once the paint was dried, I quickly and carefully took the painter's tape off to see my results.

Love it!!!!

This time I made sure to pull the fabric tightly because I learned my lesson from the gray floral canvas pillow I made. (you can see it in the corner there below).

Happy Birthday Board

Before I begin today's post, I want to give a special "Happy Birthday" shout out to our baby girl who turns 1 today!!! I can't believe it really! I still can remember heading to the hospital a little before 7AM and meeting our baby girl for the first time when she was born at 2:36PM. Thankfully, it wasn't a long labor and we are so, so, so thankful for our precious gift from the Lord.

It is so crazy to me that it all happened exactly 1 year ago. We love you little one! :)

She has been walking for a few months now (and now runs around here and there) and it always amazes me how much she learns every.single.day.

We look forward to sharing this special day with family and friends over the weekend and I will share more pictures with you next week of the celebration!!!

And now on to our little project having to do with moulding and chalkboard paint.

Over the weeked, the hubby and I bought some inexpensive moulding to put around the chalkboard wall we painted to give the dining room a little bit of a separation from the other rooms in the house.

Here are some pictures for you!

First, we had to measure out how much moulding we needed.

You will also notice that I had to erase some of the words I wrote on the chalkboard wall because the moulding was going to go right over it.

My hubby pre-hammered some nails into the moulding and then placed each one up on the wall.

In the picture below, you can see the moulding up on each side of the chalkboard wall.

What I LOVE about this wall is that I can change it to celebrate birthdays (as seen in these pictures), holidays, or other special events. :)

I also caulked around the edges of the moulding to smooth the wall out and blend it in a little bit more.

We really love our chalkboard wall and while it is a bold move for some, it really fits what we were trying to accomplish with this space- and that is to create a separation of the dining room to the other spaces.
