Happy Friday to everyone!!
I hope that everyone has an exciting day and weekend to look forward to. :)
My family and I plan on getting together with some friends and their kids this weekend and possibly spending some time at the park with lunch afterwards. Maybe I will actually remember to take a couple of photos this weekend so I can post them next week. :) At least, that is the plan!
Also, in reading a little bit of Wayne Grudem today, a particular section stood out to me and it has to do with raising your children to know and understand the Word of God, so I just wanted to share a little bit from that today.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
What do "these words" mean? Well, in the chapter and verses before these, we are told about the 10 commandments. Looking more closely, these verses also speak clearly of loving the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul, and might. Loving the Lord our God is the first commandment (and the most important) and loving others is second. Therefore, it is these that I will talk about today. :)
Now that we have a little one to love and care for, this is something that has a lot of meaning for my husband and I and it is something we need to be obedient about. We know that we are to live out the gospel in our lives and show the love of God to each other and to others- because we are called to do this and because we know that our little girl is watching and learning from us. Even though our little one is almost 11 months old, she is a very careful observer of all things. She loves to watch and see how my hubby and I interact with each other and that itself is a constant reminder of how we ought to be living as a family and with others. I also don't believe it is ever too early to talk about Jesus and his love for us to a child...in fact, it is something we have been doing with our daughter since she was a newborn. Even though she may not exactly know what we are saying (yet), she does watch us and she learns how to act in the way in which we treat her, each other, and those around us. That is why it is important for us to remember these commandments the Lord has set forth before us.
We still fall short at the end of the day, but we are to be living our lives as pleasing to the Lord because He is always watching too! He has given us a wonderful little girl to love, to watch over, and to teach and that is such a blessing!
How do you feel about raising little ones? Do you teach them love by loving them, your spouse, and others?
Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Stephanie! I love this post. I feel the same way and agree that the best way to raise our kids is by being the proper pattern. They won't always remember what we tell them, but they'll always remember what they see us doing and watch how we handle our situations.
ReplyDeleteBtw, love all the new updates to your blog. It's adorable! :) Have a great weekend!
Hi Weiya!
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting on this because it is an important topic. :)
It is amazing to my hubby and I how much our little one absorbs already and she isn't even 1 yet.
Thank you for also following me, too! It means a lot.
Happy weekend!!
