New Office Chair Completed

My Thrift Store office chair find is now completed and I am able to sit back and blog in it now! YAY!

I am so excited to show the pictures of the process and of how it looks today. So without further ado, here you go.

Here are some pictures of my chair after the second coat of spray paint was applied.

You can see the cardboard on the chair in this picture below. That got covered up quickly after my chair cushions were done.

YAY! Here is a picture of one of the chair cushions attached to my office chair.

Seat cushion attached! Such a pretty fabric. I love the beige background in the fabric. Again, all the colors of this fabric work beautifully with our newly painted walls.

For this part, I had to use a screwdriver to attach the seat cushion onto the chair.

And here are some pictures of my newly finished chair!! All for under $25!!  :)

Now for the back of the chair, I had to measure and cut out the amount of fabric needed to cover the old fabric up. To keep the new fabric in place, I used my staple gun.

Pretty!!!

Love it!!

This is a pretty easy project to do as I have mentioned before, so if you ever want to make something beautiful and inexpensive, reupholstering a chair like this is a good place to begin!  :)

Maybe next time I will be able to upholster our dining room chair and side bench!

New Office Chair

I am super excited about this blog post because I am in the process of renovating a Thrift Store chair. I purchased this chair (originally from a dining room set at the thrift store) a few weeks ago for $9.99 and here is what it looked like the day we brought it home.

So the plan was to take apart the seat and cushions and spray paint the legs and arms using RustOleums High Gloss White paint. This project took 2 days to complete because of the dry time of using spray paint. Yesterday, when we spray painted the chair, there was a lot of wind blowing around outside so I finished up the painting earlier today. The chair is out drying right now and in the next few hours, I will be putting the chair cushions back on.

**  Side note: The reason I love using spray paint is because it is quicker than using regular paint AND because you get an even coat when spraying rather than using a paint brush. **

Now, this chair has some great bones and I loved the look of it as soon as we noticed it in the Thrift Store so we were ready to buy it and bring it home right away. Also, with a $9.99 price tag, we couldn't pass it up!!

Over the weekend, I went to JoAnn's to look at fabric and because they were having a great sale, I bought 2 different kinds of fabric. Instantly, I was drawn to these 2 fabrics and purchased them right away!!

I am going to use this fabric to make an ottoman in the near future.

This is the fabric I chose for my chair and I am in LOVE!!! The colors are so pretty and work so well together in our house, especially with the new wall color.

Here is the beautiful chair before tearing it apart, but when it is finished, it will look amazing!!!

Step 1: Remove the padding and cushions carefully and take out the nails that hold the cushions to the chair. I had my hubby help me take the nails out of the fabric for this part because the nails were in there pretty good.

Here is what the chair looked like after most of the chair cushions were taken off.

Step 2 and 3: Measure the amount of fabric needed to cover the cushions and use a staple gun to hold teh fabric in place. We purchased this small staple gun at Lowe's for $10 and it is perfect for reupholstering furniture.

I cut out the amount of fabric needed to cover each chair cushion and flipped over the cushion to staple the fabric to the back. Easy-peasy!!!

Step 4: Turn over the cushion and admire your work.  :)  Here is what one of the cushions began to look after the fabric was stapled on. Fab!!

Two more pieces left and they are ready to be reupholstered.

I am serious, this is so easy that anyone can do it! It is so worth it because you get to pick the design YOU want instead of having to settle on something from a department store. And it is wayyyy cheaper than buying something brand new!!!

I realize this picture and the next one are a little out of order, but you get the idea of how this should be done. Here I am cutting out the fabric and using the seat cushion as my guide.

Laying out the fabric and getting ready to staple.

Here are all 3 seat cushions. YAY! So excited to see the end result!

And here is our little cutie pie. She is ready to start walking soon and is already pulling herself up and trying to stand on her own! Crazy!!
She is so pretty and we love her so much!  :)

I can't wait to finish this project. It will be ready later tonight and pictures of the final product will be up tomorrow!

Model Crashing

Today, I decided to go to a model home in the area and take pictures of the decor. I love walking into new homes mainly because I like to see how designers set up a new space. I uploaded some pictures of the home we saw today for you to see. After taking some pictures of this house, it gave me some great design ideas for our home.

This is the family room and I love the rug and the ottoman! Just beautiful.  :)

Love that this room gets so much natural light! There is a sunroom to the left of the family room.

I am not a fan of hanging a big TV over a fireplace, but the decor is still beautiful.

Such a cute little girls room and that mural on the wall is amazing!

Other side of the girls room.

Love this gator painted on the wall. Maybe it's because I am a GATOR fan and will always be one!!

So precious!

Boys room...not as fancy as the girls room so only one picture posted here.  :)

This is the kitchen...the countertops and the cabinets seem a little dark together, but they work with the space probably because there is plenty of natural light.

Another picture of the family room.

The entryway and the "flex room." I would probably use this room as an office space/playroom, but because this is a model home, they made it a sitting room.

Entryway...love the rug!

LOVE the stripes on the wall in this flex room. It gives a little bit of a design punch to the space.

Another picture of the entryway.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Painting Has Begun...

Today I started doing some more painting downstairs in our house and although it is not complete yet, it is well on its way! I get so excited after painting a room, or anything for that matter, because the end result looks so different from what I started with and it is always fun to see how a room turns out after a fresh coat of paint is up on the walls. I have a few pictures to share of our space, but remember, it is not complete.

To refresh, the paint color chosen for most of our home is called Relaxed Khaki by Sherwin Williams. I had bought a $3.00 sample size and colored matched at Lowe's so the paint I bought at Sherwin Williams was quite different than the Lowe's sample size. This will be a big lesson I learned when it comes to painting because the wall color that is going up now is very different from the Lowe's Relaxed Khaki color put on the wall. You will be able to see the difference between the two in some pictures, but needless to say, we still love the new wall color and it is a great neutral for our walls.

Here is a picture of the old wall color, Kilim Beige by SW. It is a nice color, but too light for our room. I took a picture of our gallery wall because the pictures had to be removed so I could paint and this is a good way to remember where the pictures will need to go once the paint has dried.  :)

Here is the new wall color, Relaxed Khaki by SW, in the entryway.

LOVE!!

Here you can see where the Relaxed Khaki and Kilim Beige meet.

Here is the new paint color going onto the wall and running into the old paint color, Kilim Beige. Don't worry, I know in this picture it looks like I didn't paint a big part of the wall, but I had to stop here because Tessa woke up from one of her naps and therefore, painting had to stop.  :)
It will be completed soon.

The small swatch above the fireplace on the far left is Relaxed Khaki that I got color matched at Lowe's. The paint below the swatches is SW Relaxed Khaki and you can see that it is quite different from the Lowe's paint. I knew both would end up slightly different from each other, because one was color matched to the other, but I thought that the color matching would have been a little bit better from Lowe's.

Oh well, we still love the new wall color that is going up now and SW's paint is pretty good.

I am painting in between my daughter's naps throughout the day so it can't all be done in one day, but I am going to try and paint later tonight after she falls asleep and hopefully have more pictures posted tomorrow of the new color and look of our room!  :)

Chalkboard Paint

Just yesterday, our little love decided to take a 3 hour nap around 11:14am until 2:15pm...that, of course, would have been the perfect time for me to start painting our downstairs, but I thought she was going to take a shorter nap in the morning like she always does. Nope! She surprised me by taking her longer nap in the morning, so needless to say, I didn't get a chance to paint because I was planning on painting in the afternoon. Oh well! She must have needed the rest and I can always paint the downstairs another day this week.  :)

Nevertheless, I wanted to post about chalkboard paint today. I have seen it used all over the blogosphere and it sounds so cool! I was trying to think of a place we could use it that would be great for the kids and the adults as well. Then it dawned on me that there is a space it WOULD be great for....and that is a little space I like to call the divider between the kitchen and the dining room. You see, we don't have a divider between our kitchen and dining room, so I was stuck painting both rooms the same color since they were connected with each other. Not any more!! Now that there is such a thing called chalkboard paint, it can serve as our room divider and it is a fun way to add a little character to our home. That way, I can paint the dining room a nice shade of blue if I wanted, or any other color that strikes me at the moment.

Here is the color I was thinking of painting the dining room in the near future- this could always change since the painting in this room won't be done for a few months or so.

It is called Respite by Sherwin Williams and it is a beautiful soothing blue that goes well next to Relaxed Khaki by Sherwin Williams.

I love blues, greens, and oranges and knew that the dining room is a great place to add some color splash to change from the neutral walls we will have in majority of our house.

Okay....back to talking about chalkboard paint.

So, here are some lovely pictures I found on the web of ways to use this type of paint. Check it out!

Here is chalkboard paint in a kitchen hallway.

Here it is on a kitchen wall for recipes and reminders.

If you don't want to be limited to just black chalkboard paint you can do this:

Rust-oleum's chalkboard paint colors!

And if you are hesitant to use chalkboard paint on a wall in your home, you can read this quick blog about other options available on the market today...some are ones you can even create yourself!

Pretty neat, huh?!?! Hopefully we can use this paint in the space I just mentioned above. Until then, I need to get the downstairs painted this week!  :)
